Stem cell transplant for sickle

Researchers at Washington University
School of Medicine in St. Louis are leading a nationwide, multicenter
clinical trial to determine the effectiveness of transplanting blood
stem cells from unrelated donors into children with severe sickle cell
disease.

The Victorian and NSW governments have
announced a fund of $1 million for a collaborative
stem cell research program. Each state will provide $500,000 to the
program, which will require
research collaboration between both states, although national and
international collaboration is
being encouraged.
