FULL-TIME POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW
SYDNEY DIABETES BETA-CELL RESEARCH UNIT
Applications are invited from suitably qualified postdoctoral researchers for the above position within the Sydney Diabetes Beta Cell Research Unit, Sydney Centre for Developmental & Regenerative Medicine, Royal North Shore Hospital.
The successful applicant will be the lead researcher in a project aimed at gene-directed differentiation of pluripotent cells to the beta-cell lineage. Applicants should have a solid foundation in molecular biology and recombinant techniques. Experience with gene transfection using viral vectors is particularly advantageous. Experience with stem cell and/or beta-cell cultures would be highly desirable.
Essential Criteria:
• Recent PhD in relevant research discipline or equivalent research experience
• Experience in recombinant molecular biology and cell culture systems
• Publication track record
• Good computer skills
• Demonstrated understanding of statistical analysis principles
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to relate well to other staff members
• Strong attention to accuracy and detail
• Ability to work with minimum supervision
Desirable Criteria:
• Specific experience in beta-cell culture or stem cell culture, supported by publications, would be an advantage.
• Experience in writing grants
The major conditions and the stipends for this fellowship are identical to those of the NHMRC Personnel Support packages and are assessed according to the qualifications and experience of the applicant.
Salary will be commensurate with the Senior Hospital Scientist Award. An annual allowance is also available for research materials and conference expenses. This position is a 3 year fixed term contract, renewable subject to performance and funding.
